How the number is worked out
Take what's left across your budgets this month, hold back what your savings goals still need, and spread the rest over the days remaining, today included. With $900 left, $300 for savings and 12 days to go, that's $600 ÷ 12 = $50 a day.
Why it moves
The number is recalculated from what's actually left, so it reacts to what you do. Spend less than it today and tomorrow's number goes up, because the leftover is spread over fewer days. Overspend and it drops, so one big night out is absorbed across the rest of the month instead of breaking the budget.
What to count as "left in your budget"
Use what you still have for everyday spending this month: groceries, eating out, transport, fun. Leave out bills that are already paid or will come out automatically, like rent and subscriptions. Otherwise the daily number looks bigger than it really is.

Common questions
What does "safe to spend" mean?
It's how much you can spend today and still finish the month inside your budget, after setting aside what you want to save.
Should today count as one of the days left?
Yes. If today is the 20th of a 30-day month, there are 11 days left including today. This calculator counts today by default.
What if I've already overspent?
If what's left is less than what you want to save, there's nothing safe to spend until the month resets. You can save a bit less this month, or treat the gap as a sign the budget needs adjusting next month.
Does this calculator store my numbers?
